7 Long-Distance Date Ideas: Fun Activities for Couples Apart

Are you wondering what are some fun long-distance date ideas and long-distance activities for you to try out with your loved ones? We’ve got you covered!

We’ve been in a long-distance relationship for about three years now. Throughout the past three years, we’ve been creative in coming up with activities to do online.

You can combine these activities for more fun too! Just hop on a call (you can use any platform) and try out the following long-distance activities.

Here are 7 long-distance date ideas that are not only fun but will help you bond as well!

1. Play Co-Op Games

This has always been at the top of our list because co-op games are just so fun!

There are so many different types of games that you can play. We’ve played horror games together, problem-solving, arcades, and mystery games.

If you both have Apple devices, then consider subscribing to Apple Arcade. You will have a lot of options! Our favorites are Hanx 101 Trivia, SongPop Party, and Disney SpellStruck.

There are also some games online that you can play together! Check out our post on the best multiplayer games for long-distance couples.

2. Watch a Movie

This one is classic. Who doesn’t like to watch a movie? But watching a movie online is even more challenging. We all know how clunky it can be to find a platform that enables us to stream movies at the same time. How are we supposed to do this when we’re in an international long-distance relationship?

Well, we just use either Facetime, Zoom, or Google Meet.

3. Online Whiteboard

Who says that online whiteboards can only be used for teams at a workplace? They are way more versatile than that if we know how to use them properly. You can use some big-name whiteboarding tools that are free-to-use such as Figjam, Miro, Mural.

There are plenty of online whiteboard activities that we can do with the help of these tools. These tools are all equipped with pre-made templates that you can use and modify. Figjam also has an AI that enables you to generate templates based on your instructions. In addition, you can also create a board from scratch and let your creativity take the wheel!

So far, we’ve arranged a birthday party, brainstorming sessions, and future-planning sessions using these tools.

4. Deep Talk Games

Having a deep talk conversation session is a good way to bond with your partner. You can let your creativity roam free and come up with deep talk questions generated by an AI, or use existing online cards that can spice up your deep talk sessions! You can make the rules or the rules created by these existing tools.

If you want to try an online deep talk card platform, we recommend Deep!

5. Virtual Candlelight Dinner

Okay, we know, nothing beats in-person candlelight dinner experiences where you have your bae, dressed nicely, sitting across you, illuminated by the warm glow of the candles on the table.

But we can give this an online twist too!

I’ve done this with Damian, we each ordered “special” food (as in, food that we don’t normally eat, like fancy food). We then hop on the Zoom call and pretend that we’re eating in the same restaurant. We used Zoom’s Immersive View feature to help create that ambiance. I also dimmed my room lights so that it’s even more immersive.

You can either choose to order in food, or you can cook them yourself!

6. Book Airbnb Experiences

Airbnb does not only offer bed-and-breakfasts and lodgings! Do you know Airbnb also offers what’s called Airbnb Online Experience?

Airbnb Experiences are activities or tours hosted by locals in cities around the world. These experiences offer travelers the chance to engage in unique and immersive activities that are not typically offered by traditional tourist services. They can range from cooking classes and guided hikes to art workshops and cultural tours, providing travelers with authentic and personalized experiences curated by local hosts.

Now for this one, we haven’t personally tried! We almost did, we wanted to join this Van Gogh painting experience, but alas, we encountered a payment failure. This has always been on our to-do list for some time, but we just haven’t had the time or opportunity to do it. There are so many options and long-distance activities to choose from! You can book virtual murder mystery escape rooms, virtual tours by local hosts to your favorite places around the world, and even get a chef to teach you guys how to cook recipes! Cool, right?

7. Get creative with Google Street View!

Google Street View is so underrated as a long-distance activity that you can do together with your loved ones. There are dozens of ways for you to use Google Street View as a bonding tool. You can walk your partner through the places you used to grow up in, places that matter to you, or simply just find a place and walk through it! Let’s say you’ve both been dreaming of going to Venice. Google Street View will take your imagination further by providing immersive, 360-degree views of the place that you can virtually walk through. Plan your future travels and daydream about going there together!

8. Bonus: Do nothing with each other. Just enjoy each other’s presence!

In a non-LDR relationship, you don’t usually spend all your time talking or actively doing something together. There are moments when you just need to get things done, but you still appreciate your partner’s company. Same thing with LDR. We can’t just chat or call each other only when something is happening! Try to be on a call where you just do your own thing. One person cooks and the other person works. For people with ADHD, this can also double as body doubling. Learn to appreciate even the quiet moments!

Conclusion

There are so many fun activities that you can do even while in a long-distance relationship. You can play games, book an Airbnb experience, go on Google Street View, create an online whiteboard, or watch a movie. Remember to also enjoy each other’s presence!
